[Kazemaru's laughter is clear, crisp like the sound of wooden chimes in the wind. At the same time, it carries with it a sort of dryness, a drop of different emotion mixed in with the fondness and love he has for his long time friend.] I don't know if I know anybody with stronger ambition toward anything than Endou, honestly.
Toward soccer, toward doing the right thing... toward his friends.
Endou didn't leave me behind. That makes me want to follow him no matter where he wants to go with that ball.
Something maybe Sakuma had to really look at. Sure, Kidou had transferred schools, but the same warm tone had welcomed him to FFI. He'd been introduced as if he were already chosen for the team, and despite not being in the initial lineup, he'd practiced and proved himself earning a position in its final matches.
Genda was proud. Kidou was proud.
And he knows, if he asked Endou, he would be too, despite how it still felt like they were strangers to each other. A smile forms on his face as his hands stuff themselves in his jacket pocket.]
Guess that means I'll be following too. Kidou will be chasing after Endou as well, and I'm tired of falling behind. It's time I catch up.
Then that means we'll be running with each other, you and me. I think that'll be nice.
[Kazemaru doesn't think he'll ever be able to catch up to Endou, but that thought no longer gives him pain. It's pure admiration, though it's a mindset that only came after a lot of hardship.]
It's funny. When he'd joined Inazuma Japan for the second half of the journey, he'd had his doubts. Really, all of who he could trust was Kidou. Endou and the others were distant people he could trust Kidou could grow with, but none of who he saw himself falling in line with. Maybe he felt too different, maybe he was the old Teikoku ways and Raimon was the exact opposite.
It was why Death Zone 2 was unlike Death Zone, after all. Fudou, not originally of Teikoku, of course would fit in better.
But here Kazemaru was, extending his hand out to him without any hestation, telling him that they'd support each other as mutuals, as people with similar goals and dreams, and suffered through the same problems.
His eyes cast to the side, not taking that hand just yet.]
I hated to admit it to myself...but I didn't think I'd find many friends while I was here. You're all so close, and your way of thinking is so much different than what I'm used to.
Endou's logic isn't logic at all, your formation's all off, you act as an individual while being a group as well...
[He smiles, pulling that jacket around him a little more.]
I thought I wouldn't fit into something like that. But it really is that easy, isn't it?
[Sakuma's concern is one Kazemaru empathizes with. It's natural, he thinks, because even if he was simply a new student and not just someone from an outside group, joining the track team had been nerve-wracking, worrying for weeks on end if he'd be able to get along with the team. Hayami had been such a help then, his social skills and inherent friendliness helping Kazemaru from becoming too much of a wallflower. In soccer, it was a little different. It was a small team, and it was Endou's team. It had been easy to open his heart to them, and looking after the first years had given him a purpose to begin with.
It must be similar, but also much harder, for Sakuma, who had to join later into a team that was comprised mostly of Raimon or Caravan players.]
I don't think it's the easiest group to keep up with. At least with Endou's thought process.
But I think... it's not a difficult group to become friends with.
Good. Because this is something I'm actually confident about.
If it were any other team -- if it were any other captain but Endou, I probably wouldn't have gotten so into soccer as I did. But it was the team that appealed to me. And this one, too.
[This is probably the first time he's ever heard -that-, or at least gotten the insinuation that Kazemaru had no interest in soccer before Endou during middle school.]
When you guys first came to Raimon for that practice match? We barely had eleven players on Raimon, right? Three were last minute recruits and I was only supposed to help that match.
With me not giving a straight answer and a few other guys being wishy washy, everyone was kind of accepting Raimon's loss and the club being shut down. That was what was on the line.
But Endou didn't give up. I watched him practicing on his own... and you could say he lit a fire in me. I thought I might be able to see something I'd never seen before. He won me over.

We'll get to support each other.

Well...if we could make friends so easily over a misfired text, I have nothing but confidence in your words.

So that explains why you all looked so green when we faced you.
[Teikoku's reputation aside, half of Raimon had never played soccer before...]
So Endou converted you from another team as well.
