[With one graceful motion, Sakura raises her foot high into the air, leg parallel to her body, before leaning forward and pressing the back of her ankle against Matatagi's shoulder. She continues to tilt forward, closing her eyes as she feels the muscles in her leg stretching as she does, then reaches over with one of her hands to press a cold can of juice straight out of the vending machine against the boy's other shoulder. The one that he'd asked (rudely) for just a minute ago.]
[Rude is a matter of opinion if you ask Matatagi. He prefers 'honest' or 'upfront', and if she was going to use him as a stretching post, then he might as well get compensation. His eyes trail to the side where the cold soda was pressed against, hand reaching awkwardly back to take it nonchalantly, opening it up without so much as a word.]
You overdo it today at practice?
[Despite being in different sports, they did share the mentality of an athlete who was not used to functioning as a team. Gymnasts, track stars...they often competed on their own, with the occasional relay race in the track field. It makes it harder to bond with the other members the way they're used to.
Not that Matatagi's anyone to really write home about as a BFF, but he can silently understand.]
[He takes this moment to look back at her, his eyes having lost the usual darkness they often carried. It only lasts a moment, as they cast to the foot on his shoulder and then to her face, before he quickly turns back to his soda, sipping to avoid the question a moment.]
I stretch before I take to the field too.
[He smirks, though, eyes going half lid.] Can't say I'm as flexible as you, though.
[Another sip of his drink, eyes never leaving the field to return her gaze.]
I can find plenty of faults with you if you miss 'em that bad.
[His tone is playful, at least. If there's one thing Matatagi's new personality gave, it was honesty with a strange hint of fondness. Like a tricky little kitten that wants to play with you.]
[She does hear the lightness of his tone, different from back when his hair first turned blue and he yelled at the Captain before he got re-converted.]
[And there it is--for a split second, if you caught Matatagi's face, you could catch the soft bewildered expression that ghosted over it. Just a fraction of a second showing an awkward, stumbling-for-balance boy who couldn't find words.
Only for a second, though--her comment shaken off like a dog shaking off the rain.
She's just fucking with him.]
Let's just run--c'mon!!
[As he takes off without her, although not exactly going his fastest--endurance was key in this sport, right?
..Or was he just making sure she'd be able to catch up?]
