[Despite being in Inazuma Japan and traveling to Raimon for the representative match, Hiroto had never stopped to really look around Inazumacho. From what he'd gathered...it was small, quiet, but had a warmth that he couldn't really pinpoint. The heart of the town itself seemed to beat with a love for soccer, and the more he thinks on that part...the more obvious it is that Endou would be from a town like this.

The more it makes sense that this town was in many ways, the only place Endou could have come from.

He walks the steps slowly, taking in each moment with fascination as his gaze expands out to the horizon. The golden sunset unmasked by trees, the skyline of the town perfectly shadowed against its glow.... A part of him is secretly glad he wasn't tasked to coming to this town for his mission. Now, his first memories of this place are this sunset...these steps...

"Hurry up, Hiroto!"

And just like that, he snaps out of his daze, green eyes flicking up to see Endou waiting at the top for him.]

Ah!!

Coming! Coming!!

[There's a frantic, but joyful run up those steps, clutching his bags and scrambling his feet as fast as they'll go.]

Heh, you'll always be one step ahead of me, Endou-kun.

Oh-- here.

[Silly him. Endou, while enthusiastic, straightforward, and also single-minded, is also perceptive in his own ways. When he sees those bags jumping and bumping around with Hiroto's now-hurried steps, he leaps down a few feet to meet him partway and takes one or two of them off his hands, hoisting them onto his own shoulders and lightening the load for his guest. With his goalkeeper arms, this weighs nothing.]

There, that's easier right? Maybe you'll keep up better like this.

[Hiroto's eyes stay fixed on Endou, even with his quick, unpredictable movements. Training with Genesis, especially with the limiters released made it easy to keep up with quick movements. So Endou's little motion doesn't surprise him, it's more the action itself that leaves him somewhat breathless.

He's not sure why he's so surprised either, Endou was nothing if eager to help. He'd seen it with his own two eyes during Aliea's 'invasion'. And it was the one thing that had saved him and his siblings. The bag is quickly lifted from his shoulders, green eyes wide and almost child-like as he watches his friend lift it over his own as if it weighed absolutely nothing.

A smile forms. And those green eyes practically dance in the sunset as he adjusts the one bag he has left on his body.]

You truly are amazing, Endou-kun.

I'll definitely keep up now.

[He has no excuse not to.]

You better! I'm not even that fast, you know?

[Endou is less speed and more just rocket launcher levels of energy. Which is really the same thing in the end. But for now, he pats the bags now hanging at his sides and starts going back up the steps.

Backwards. Because why not.]

Come on!

Hah! Coming!

[There was no way he'd let himself fall behind in step with Endou now that he had no excuse of multiple bags. His feet push off, catching up to Endou's enthusiastic sprint and keeping pace, letting the boy lead him up the steps and following the path towards his training area.]

I heard that you practiced by the riverbank...but you also came up here as well?

[Raimon certainly did center itself around the idea of soccer--at least recently now that they had won the FFI and it had become a hub of reinvigorated soccer. The spirit of the town practically screamed with pride for the sport and the team itself.

It was admirable. He could only hope Sun Garden could have even a fraction of that pride, despite everything.]

Yeah. When Raimon's soccer club was smaller I practiced by teaching the KFC kids at the riverbank, but up here was where I did my own training. I learned it from Grandpa's notebook.

[Now, he didn't need to train here so much because he had a larger team with members always willing to practice against the Endou Mamoru. But he still liked to come up here, remind himself of where it all began, and feel the slap of the heavy tire against his hands. To never forget his soccer. It was where he and his friends liked to gather, too, and everyone wanted to come see it on their trips to Inazumacho.

Today was Hiroto's turn.]

It's my favorite place in town.

[Hiroto's eyes soften as Endou speaks, practically feeling the love from his own words as he talks about the place where it had all started. This was where Endou had learned the core of his soccer, and in essence, was a place that was very special to Hiroto too.

After all, if it weren't for this, along with many other pieces of the puzzle, Hiroto wouldn't have been saved as he did. He was always one to look at the individual stars that made up constellations, each one important to revealing the full picture.

Green eyes glint in the sunlight as he makes his way to the summit of the stairs.]

So this is where you got your strength.

..

[He has to laugh, eyes squinting with his smile.]

I guess your leg strength was the first thing gained, from running up these steps with bags and all.

[personal profile] mamorinuku 2017-07-04 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
You got that right! I wanted to be a goalie like grandpa from the beginning but I sucked at kicking so I kept having to chase after the ball and go up these stairs.

[Nobody in the first grade had calves as developed as Endou Mamoru.]

It's kind of crazy, to think I was playing soccer alone at first.

[Hiroto has to stifle a chuckle at the very idea of Endou 'sucking' at anything. To him, Endou was the goal, the ideal soccer player and friend he aspired to be. It was hard to imagine him as anything but. Even if the idea of Endou tirelessly running up stairs because the ball keeps going down them after his kicks was a little amusing to think about.]

It's strange...I've never had that. I always had people around me, playing games and laughing. I didn't always join in...I was pretty shy and kept to myself, but we were together.

[Playing alone, learning alone...

It sounds difficult--at least for him. Endou probably always had a smile on his face.]

You really love soccer.

[personal profile] mamorinuku 2017-07-25 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I do.

[A few more bounces up the steps, and Endou reaches the top of the hill. Just one steel tower to climb until they can see the entirety of Inazumacho.]

The first time I saw Grandpa's journal, I got this -- this lightning striking me, sort of feeling. I didn't know him back then and Mom didn't like to talk about it, but I felt like I could know exactly who he was if I kept playing soccer according to him. And it just got more and more fun. I was playing by myself, but I never felt alone.

A lightning strike....how poetic, Endou-kun.

[He has no doubt that the lightning was metaphorical, but he can certainly imagine the effect it must have had on the young Endou Mamoru. Browsing through an old, tattered notebook, as illegible as it was from what Endou had shown in the FFI. Unable to read it, but sensing the power and weight that it held. A shock...

Yeah, that was fitting.]

That makes sense. You never felt alone because your grandfather's feelings were right beside you. That lightning you felt, I think it was when the legend transferred to you, Endou.

It was no longer his story at that moment, but your own.

[Now who's being poetic.]

Amazing.
