[They'd done it. Japan had won the FFI and had become the best in the world. What had only seemed like a pipe dream for anyone from Sun Garden had now become reality, Hiroto and Midorikawa both chosen, with Hiroto making it to the finals to bring it home. There was a lot of weight riding on his shoulders for this. Reina had said this was something he could do for him...but the truth was, he wanted to bring all of Sun Garden the victory.
He wanted to bring Midorikawa the victory he had helped them achieve.
The plane ride back to Japan felt like ages, looking down in his seat at the picture he now held of everyone surrounding Endou, holding that trophy. On the back, all the names of the team members, Midorikawa and Kurimatsu included. On the front, signatures from everyone specifically for Midorikawa, thanking him for his help. A true souvenir for the boy who had to be subbed out halfway through FFI.
It takes even longer for the bus to arrive back at Mount Fuji, Sun Garden being so out of the way that he had to say goodbye to everyone once they were at Tokyo. From there, Fubuki would fly to Hokkaido, Tsunami and Hijikata would take a boat back to Okinawa, and he would return to the orphanage. The steps felt longest of all. What were always so familiar to him that he could walk up them with barefeet and his eyes closed now felt his shoes dragging, wanting to be at the destination instead of being stuck in the journey there.
His friends, his sister, Midorikawa...they were all waiting for him.
When he gets to the top, they're all waiting. Every single person from Sun Garden was there with a party popper pulled, streamers flying, and a welcome home sign that he instantly recognized as Midorikawa's handwriting. Fuusuke and Haruya stood on either side of the boy with the green hair, shoving him forward. After all, he'd worked the hardest on this party, and they certainly weren't going to dive tackle their champion.
Hiroto's eyes soften more than they already were, tears building up at the corners. A welcome home party just for him...and the best part was...
He could share the news with everyone.]
Everyone...
[His eyes focus on Midorikawa at that moment, the green in his eyes flicking gently, happily. For once, Hiroto was so proud of who they were. Who he was.]
(it's hiroto's face that truly makes the moment for all of them, that gentle face ready to cry from a swarm of emotions, the mutual pride shared between the family. their brother had come a winner for all of them, not just himself. he sorely deserved this victory, and no one believed that more than midorikawa.
he's not so much nudged as he is shoved forward, fuusuke and haruya whispering teasing comments about how there's no better time than now. no one says a word, but he can feel them all edging him on, wishing him the courage to not only welcome hiroto home, but with words that have long gone unsaid. and surely he deserves this, right? hiroto and midorikawa have suffered through so much together, no one knows the two better.
still clutching the banner tightly, midorikawa musters every ounce of courage he can, trudging those last few steps closer. despite nerves and anxiousness building inside him, the smile is still fresh on his face.
and why wouldn't he be smiling? his best friend came home a champion and there's a lovingly decorated banner to prove it. that victory spread from every member of inazuma japan, on and off the field, clear through the country and right into the hearts of everyone at sun garden. with how hiroto so often gave them support, they could all give him more than enough in return.
and he truly deserved it.
those last few steps are finally closed, midorikawa and hiroto only less than a foot apart from each other. his heart threatens to beat clear out of his chest, but there's still a smile, bright and kind and loving.) We all won.
(and with that, he hurriedly leans over, planting a quick kiss on hiroto's lips, the only sound to follow being everyone's surprised (and excited) gasps.)
[It all happens so fast. Midorikawa, nudged forth by Fuusuke and Haruya whispering something unintelligible from his distance, the way Fumiko's practically waiting with bated breath...Izuno giving him a thumbs up. None of it really registered until after Midorikawa's soft (god were they soft) lips press to his own, chapped from so many days in the sun under Liocott island's skies. They say the feeling is like fireworks. That's what he'd always heard in the storybooks he'd read Kimiyuki, anyway. But this was sweeter, more like honey put into your tea just before bedtime. It was cozy and shocking all at once, and his brain can't really process either without the realization.
The realization that Midorikawa was kissing him. Kissing him! His cheeks flush a bright pink as he gasps, parting his lips from his friend's as he looks with wide, curious eyes.
Silence fills the area between them for just a moment as he swallows, looking at Midorikawa's hopeful (and panicked eyes) as everyone watches them. The boy had nothing to fear, really...
After all, it was all but unsaid between them. His face breaks out into the biggest smile he can muster, plastered almost comically across his face as he lets out a laugh--pure, jovial, and happy.]
We really did, didn't we?
["Kiss him back, idiot!" Haruya calls from the sidelines, figuring that Hiroto would never do it on his own unless prompted. Not out of lack of caring, but Hiroto was just too damn polite sometimes.
His eyes close at the idea, biting his lip for just a second before silently agreeing. It was all so sudden...he still hadn't quite processed it yet...but all he knew was that it felt nice.
It felt right.
And without any further prompting, he pulls Midorikawa close to him, hands pressing flush against his back and tilting his head to get just the right angle so their noses don't bump against each other. Lips touch Midorikawa's much more, a kiss of gratitude and affection for the boy who had always supported him.
(the suspense is killing him. everyone might have encouraged him, soothed him by saying there was no doubts of hiroto loving midorikawa in return. and he believed them, everyone knew hiroto too well for midorikawa to question their advice and belief.
but even still, the pause after the kiss lasts for what feels like eternity. he hadn't been pushed away, the events were no doubt still processing in hiroto's mind, and it was torture waiting for a reaction. and then, slowly, a smile spread over hiroto's face. bright and beautiful like all the stars in the night sky, his heart doing flip flops at the sound of his laugh.
hiroto's laugh. something midorikawa had been deprived of for longer than he knew, and god did he ever miss it. his reaction starts out slow at first, but a smile is on midorikawa's face before he knows it, nodding in response to hiroto's question.) We're champions. Because of you.
(and haruya, dear sweet haruya who tries so hard, ruins the mood, so to speak. at least, midorikawa thinks he does. he's about to shoot a glare back at his brother for putting things so bluntly and... without class. never mind that's how he is.
except he never does, not when hiroto's hands find their place on his back, tugging him closing and prompting a light gasp through his lips. everything is so perfect, falling into place in the best way possible. the feel of hiroto's chapped lips against his own, the smoothness of his hands on midorikawa's back. he'll still want to say the words, finally say them out loud to the boy he's come to love so dearly.
but for right now, his hands forget the sign in favor of brushing over a cheek, cupping it like he's beautiful and perfect and something to protect. the other through that hair he's come to be known by, brushing strands out of his face. he's nothing but a ball of energy now, loving and excited and exuding all of that to hiroto.)
[Midorikawa shifts against him so naturally, falling into his arms as if he'd always wanted to be there, dreamed about being there....as if he belonged there. The way that palm cups his cheek is so loving, Hiroto feeling the warmth of it as he tilts his head into that kiss slightly, letting himself bear any weight Midorikawa had.
He wanted to argue that it was because of THEM that they were champions. That Midorikawa had pulled considerable weight in FFI and they would not have made it to the finals without him both on the field and off. But the kiss was warm and sweet like honey, teasing his lips that were already soaking in Midorikawa's softness in both body and kiss. He had to succumb to the feeling for the moment, words useless and not a priority...at least for the moment. He could have let it gone on forever, letting his hands travel to Midorikawa's face and intertwine his fingers in those little green bangs on the sides of his face. It was a perfect moment that could have frozen in time for all he cared.
But it was not to last. Not yet, anyway.
Haruya and Fuusuke snicker, knowing full well that their kiss was probably dragging on longer than was probably expected, and the soft groans from Kimiyuki sound below them as he's forced to watch this incredibly grown-up PDA. It doesn't escape Hiroto's ears either, lifting just enough from the kiss to remain close to the boy, but far enough that he could look past that green hair and see his siblings.
A humble chuckle escapes him. He'd have to pick this up at a later point for sure, but at least both he and Midorikawa had that moment to solidify their relationship.
They had a relationship, right? He wasn't too assuming...was he?
Questions he'd have to ask later, as right now he's smiling and wrapping his arm around Midorikawa's, letting his pale fingers snake through the boy's much darker ones, lacing them together in an embrace that still keeps them connected, even then.] Thank you, everyone.
[A glance to Midorikawa again, smiling brighter than any sun.]
(it would be far from assuming things at this point, midorikawa wanted to scream to the world that he's here, he's happy, he has a boyfriend. and not just anyone, it's the love of his life, his best friend who's stood by him through the best and worst, someone who pulled him out of the darkness of aliea. midorikawa couldn't have asked for a better partner in life.
and he was kissing him. it was a dream come true, forcing himself back from smiling into the kiss, or hell, even laughing. it was the most at peace he'd ever been with his life, and yet, midorikawa never felt more full of energy than he had in this moment.
while he was all for ignoring the racket from the peanut gallery, hiroto sadly was not. pulling away left midorkawa flushed and breathless, more than he'd ever been, even after soccer practice.
the smile grew on his face before he even thought to hold it back, and after a moment's consideration, why should he? he was happy, he had the right to express that. his eyes glimmer as hiroto takes his hand, and that single look told him everything, that the smile hiroto had blessed him with was for midorikawa alone.
that's when his self-restraint was completely thrown out the window. he closed the short distance between them once again, wrapping his arms tightly around his new boyfriend (he was going to be saying that quite often now) and his face buried in his shoulder as tears of joy bundled at the corners of his eyes.) We're so glad you're back, Hiroto! I love you!
[It's such a rush of emotion. He'd expected tears, or cries of joy when he'd walked up those long stairs to Sun Garden's entrance. He'd almost expected the banner and everyone to be lined up to congratulate him, with Midorikawa at the center and probably the one to organize everything.
He never expected the kiss, or the confession, or the way his mind feels like it's buzzing around in his brain and seeing everything and yet so static at the same time. It left him breathless, and not just from the kiss, and he can feel his heart wanting to practically burst from his chest.
Midorikawa's head rests on his shoulder, and he's ready to nuzzle into it to properly respond...
And then those words leave Midorikawa's mouth, and it hits him how long he's wanted to hear that said to him. From father, from Hitomiko, from anyone...
For him, and not just because he reminded everyone of another boy.]
I...
[Arms throw themselves around Midorikawa's shoulders, tears forming at the corners of his eyes.]
(midorikawa will say the words for hiroto as many times as he wants, as many times as any situation calls for it. even now, he wants nothing more than to say the words over and over, so freely and openly, this is his own right now. he doesn't care about the gagging sounds from kimiyuki, or the groans from haruya and fuusuke, the general uncertain sounds from saginuma. midorikawa would ignore them all as long as he could if it meant he could tell hiroto just how important he is.
but there will be a time for that later. though the kiss had done wonders for him, truly made every dream he's had for the past years come true, something about hearing the words out loud is completely different. it's real and verbal and for once, he has something he doesn't have to share with anyone else.
he is hiroto's boyfriend, he can say i love you and kiss him and lavish his loved one with the attention he's always deserved.
and there's nothing midorikawa would rather do than that, but the peanut gallery is getting just a bit too noisy for his liking. comments of "can you be all gross later" and "we didn't plan this party just to watch you guys yuck it up". okay, so it was mostly just haruya and fuusuke, but even still. midorikawa finally pries himself away from hiroto, a bright, sunshine smile meant just for him.) They're right, you should see the party we've got! We can pick this up later.
[Oh that's right...they'd all worked so hard to put together this party for him, to welcome him back from the FFI and congratulate him on his victory. Using the back of his hand, he wipes those shed tears of happiness away, giving a nod of affirmation.]
Right. [A turn towards everyone, as his smile spreads across his face and lights up like the rising sun.] I'm sorry, everyone. I got so caught up in everything...I'm ready, I promise!
[Kimiyuki and Ruru seem to light up at that, making a mad dash for their brother and throwing their arms around his waist. As if they wanted to give Midorikawa his moment before they could have their turn. Smiles and warmth envelope him, Ruru's blathering about what they all did and Kimiyuki's soft 'Don't spoil it' mixed in.
It's then that he forgot how much he missed this. Inazuma Japan was certainly important to him, some of the most important people he'd ever meet in his life...but this was his family. And he'd missed his family so much.
With a little tug of his hand, he gestures for Midorikawa to lead the way, green eyes sparkling with newfound confidence, newfound purpose, and newfound love.]
(the rest of the orphanage, their family, soon followed after the two younger siblings, and it wasn’t long until a crowd formed, all of them giving hiroto many well deserved pats on the back. they only offered what hiroto had more than earned at this point, their love and support and pride for all he’s done for them, make a name for all of them, show the world what they’re really capable of.
his smile is returned with fifty more surrounding him, all bright and overjoyed and ready to share all the stories hiroto has missed out on during his time in ffi.
the smaller siblings begin tugging on hiroto’s arm, dragging him back into the house before midorikawa even has time to react. he’s given a rather telling look that he’s had his turn, and it’s time to share their beloved big brother. all the while, stories and jokes are being exchanged to catch hiroto up on all that he’s missed in his time gone. all the trouble haruya and fuusuke caused, how much reina has to reel them in to prevent disasters, saginuma constantly keeping a watchful eye to see if he would ever need to step on the field in their place.
once inside, the house is even more elaborately decorated than the outside. streamers and balloons are everywhere, countless snacks and a beautiful cake on display, a large sign with the moon and starts, everything hiroto loves on it.
everyone turns to him with anticipation in their eyes, praying he approves of all they’ve done for him, with all the work they put into it. midorikawa is the only calm one, the only one who looks at him with a confident smile as he gestures to the room.) So what do you think of your welcome home party!
[Hiroto had always known his family was loving. Deep down, even in the darkest days of Aliea Academy, he'd know that they all loved each other, alongside their love of Father. Even underneath the facade of makeup and method acting, he knew. But nothing drives it home more than now, hearing their congrats and feeling their palms slap against his back. Izuno's bear hugs, Fumiko's jump tackle, Reina's curt, but soft welcome. All of it truly felt like he'd been gone for so much longer than just a couple of months.
He missed it all.
Ruru and Kimiyuki take his hands, tugging him towards the house. And with one semi-apologetic look to his boyfriend (that still felt so new to think to himself, let alone say), there was an unspoken promise that they'd pick up their conversation later.
The inside of the main house was more than he ever could have imagined. Streamers from one corner to the next, balloons of blue and white to represent Inazuma Japan... a homemade cake and snacks scattered across the table. It was simple and homely, and it was everything Hiroto wanted. Green eyes soften as he approaches the table, Kimiyuki and Ruru tagging along as he keeps ahold of their hands.
"Do you like it?" the girl asks cheerfully, tugging on Hiroto's hand for his attention.
"Haru-nii messed up the cake icing, but it's still good." Kimiyuki adds.
Protest in the back from a certain redhead follows, his white haired partner of no help. Voices erupt for a moment, the silence of the moment instantly broken and the window of opportunity for chatter left wide open. But Hiroto's silent, looking over the table to print it to memory. Letting the moment sink in for a few moments longer before finally speaking up.]
Everyone. [Silence immediately follows, showing that even now, even with Aliea behind them, Hiroto was still their 'leader'. The one they all looked to.
Tears well up in his eyes, turning to face them and brushing them away with the inside of his arm the best he can. His eyes glitter, not from sadness or surprise, but newfound confidence he'd found only on Liocott island, and pride he'd always had for the people he felt blessed to share his life with.]
I won. We won. So let's not wait any longer, alright?
Let's celebrate!
[A hand breaks away from Ruru, gesturing out for everyone to dig in and let the festivities start.]
(with the threat of their so-called “father” no longer looming over them, with a much more understanding and caring hitomiko being their guardian now, celebrations and acts of kindness such as this were now considered the norm among their home. all of them are free to express their love for their family as much as they want, physical displays of affection being showered upon hiroto all at once, the way he truly deserved to have his love.
they truly missed giving it as much as he missed receiving it.
midorikawa feels no sadness over his boyfriend being dragged away from him, in fact, he’s rather excited to see him react to the party in store for him. though the thought of hiroto being his boyfriend now is certainly a large reason for his beaming smile.
that bright smile and blinding confidence he hasn’t seen hiroto with in what feels like ages, it only warms midorikawa’s heart, even from the casual bickering in the background he’s grown so familiar with. the speech touches his heart, knowing how important this moment is for all of them, how much this victory truly means to all of them.
as everyone disperses to crowd around the food, begin small fights over who gets what and to save the best for hiroto and not get greedy, midorikawa takes this opportunity to slide over to hiroto, planting a quick kiss on his cheek.) I’m glad you won for us. But I’m even more glad you’re home.
[It was this that Hiroto missed the most, he thinks. The island, while peaceful and certainly had it's own quirks (please don't ask him to get into it, he's not really ready to share his experience with a kappa), the bustling white noise of Sun Garden, as busy as it could get, was his true home, and he missed it more than anything.
Green eyes tilt up to meet Midorikawa sliding over to him, his heart instantly alight with excitement that he can feel bubbling to the surface. It was hard to contain himself, hard to act like he had everything together when in fact, he wanted to go and bury his face into a pillow and soak in the fact that he had a boyfriend. And not just any boyfriend, but Midorikawa.
The kiss is received, his eyes blinking slowly to savour the sweet feeling of those lips against his cheek. His smile's trying very hard to contain itself, voice quivering with excitement as he replies.]
(midorikawa’s own excitement is near impossible to contain. this is everything he’s dreamed of for years, and it fell into his lap so effortlessly, he almost doesn’t quite believe he’s in reality. sun garden had always felt like home, no matter the struggles and pains all of them went through, together or alone. but with hiroto home now, finally with them, it felt like their home was complete again. like it was whole. it just wasn’t the same without everyone’s favorite brother there.
well, favorite boyfriend to midorikawa now.
the joy spreading off hiroto was easy to fall in place with, the two of them in a good enough mood to last sun garden for years at the very least. giddy laughter rises up from his chest as he bites down on his lip to try and suppress a smile, not give away just how elated he was at this moment. the last thing he needs is everyone teasing him for years to come.) Yeah, no kidding. Be careful, Saginuma might try to drag you away for a lecture on what you’ve missed.

Inazuma Japan was certainly important to him, some of the most important people he'd
ever meet in his life...but this was his family. And he'd missed his family so much.
With a little tug of his hand, he gestures for Midorikawa to lead the way, green eyes sparkling with newfound confidence, newfound purpose, and newfound love.]

his smile is returned with fifty more surrounding him, all bright and overjoyed and ready to share all the stories hiroto has missed out on during his time in ffi.
the smaller siblings begin tugging on hiroto’s arm, dragging him back into the house before midorikawa even has time to react. he’s given a rather telling look that he’s had his turn, and it’s time to share their beloved big brother. all the while, stories and jokes are being exchanged to catch hiroto up on all that he’s missed in his time gone. all the trouble haruya and fuusuke caused, how much reina has to reel them in to prevent disasters, saginuma constantly keeping a watchful eye to see if he would ever need to step on the field in their place.
once inside, the house is even more elaborately decorated than the outside. streamers and balloons are everywhere, countless snacks and a beautiful cake on display, a large sign with the moon and starts, everything hiroto loves on it.
everyone turns to him with anticipation in their eyes, praying he approves of all they’ve done for him, with all the work they put into it. midorikawa is the only calm one, the only one who looks at him with a confident smile as he gestures to the room.) So what do you think of your welcome home party!

[A hand breaks away from Ruru, gesturing out for everyone to dig in and let the festivities start.]

they truly missed giving it as much as he missed receiving it.
midorikawa feels no sadness over his boyfriend being dragged away from him, in fact, he’s rather excited to see him react to the party in store for him. though the thought of hiroto being his boyfriend now is certainly a large reason for his beaming smile.
that bright smile and blinding confidence he hasn’t seen hiroto with in what feels like ages, it only warms midorikawa’s heart, even from the casual bickering in the background he’s grown so familiar with. the speech touches his heart, knowing how important this moment is for all of them, how much this victory truly means to all of them.
as everyone disperses to crowd around the food, begin small fights over who gets what and to save the best for hiroto and not get greedy, midorikawa takes this opportunity to slide over to hiroto, planting a quick kiss on his cheek.) I’m glad you won for us. But I’m even more glad you’re home.

Me too.
I have so much to catch up on.

well, favorite boyfriend to midorikawa now.
the joy spreading off hiroto was easy to fall in place with, the two of them in a good enough mood to last sun garden for years at the very least. giddy laughter rises up from his chest as he bites down on his lip to try and suppress a smile, not give away just how elated he was at this moment. the last thing he needs is everyone teasing him for years to come.) Yeah, no kidding. Be careful, Saginuma might try to drag you away for a lecture on what you’ve missed.
