He types, before erasing. Because honestly, by the time he thinks up another excuse, Tenma's going to be at his door and ready to drag him out for a day of sugar induced bad decisions.
He knows this boy. And that's what scares him the most.]
[There's a sigh of defeat--Tenma's on his way and like a gust of wind, there's nothing on this earth that can stop him. Pocketing his phone and hands, he stands up from the couch he was sitting on, making his way around the coffee table and through the living room over to where his door is.
Taking his time, making sure to check the clock just to see how long it'll take Tenma to get there.
Taking a few more steps.
Getting his shoes on.
Opening the door, right as Tenma is making his way up the steps. Because that boy is not going to stop, and he wants to avoid any full on collisions with aggressive optimism.]
[Tenma knew, somewhere deep down in his genes, where the wild winged horse in his soul resided, that this best friend of his wouldn't let him down. He's closing in on that door with alarming speed but he doesn't feel any fear or concern about it. And lo and behold, it opens right on time for him as he kicks off the ground, takes to the air, throws out his arms, and leaps at Tsurugi with all of his overflowing enthusiasm.]
[There's something in Tsurugi's instincts that awakens, whether it be that of a wolf or that of a soccer player, but he has a feeling of what Tenma's going to do. His eyes widen, assessing the situation in record time as his arms extend out, ready to catch the boy in his arms.
What he didn't estimate, however, was the force that is Matsukaze Tenma, and how much it would send him flying. They both go back, Tsurugi instinctively pulling him close as they crash to the ground.
His vision swaps from looking at the door to looking at the ceiling, Tenma in his arms and amber eyes blinking in sheer confusion. Wondering what the hell just happened in those past 3 seconds.]
Tenma.
[It's not angry, or even upset.
It's almost as if this is exactly how he expected to meet him.]
[Tenma's actions aren't completely thoughtless. Sure, he knocks Tsurugi over, but he twists just enough that he's not on top of him when they land. His bends his knees so they hit the floor to break the fall even with those arms holding him close, and he secures a hand at the back of Tsurugi's head and neck to shield them from any impact. Harm is the last thing he wants to bring to him, even if he's not above freaking him out with seemingly random actions like this.
He's grinning as he pulls back and leans over him, slate eyes sparkling with glints like lightning in a stormy sky.]
[It was just like Tenma. The boy would never let any harm come to any of his friends, deciding to twist his body to minimize damage to both himself and Tsurugi. It was not unlike how they met, when he'd kicked the soccer ball at him and he'd use his body to cause the least amount of damage while still blocking its path. Tenma was a quick thinker like that, and the hand behind his head, the way his body is shielded from anything more than a soft 'flump' to the ground...it was just like Tenma.
He smiles, eyes closing to not completely succumb to those slate-blue eyes immediately.]
You better not have. But even if you did I would've just proven you wrong.
[And while most people would move off their friend around this time, this is Tenma, and Tenma does not. Because he's tired; he may be fast, but the run to Tsurugi's house was still, well, a run, and he has to catch his breath. Which he does simply by sighing out loud and flopping down on the floor next to the boy now, flat on his stomach, one arm draped across Tsurugi's torso, and his face buried into his shoulder. The wing-like curls of his hair brush up against the taller boy's cheek as he wiggles around and turns his head to get some air.]
[He can feel Tenma's breath, slightly laboured and heavy from the run over here. Tenma's skill was speed, and he certainly had the endurance of a horse, but anyone would be tired after that run. It's not something Tsurugi expresses vocally, but he doesn't mind staying like this. Tenma was warm and full of life, and he can feel the soft little wing-like curls tangle in with his own little curly hairs, trying hard not to let his smile give him away.]
Five minutes. I'll be counting.
[A joke, Tenma could lie there as long as he needed to.]
[Tenma knows he's joking, but he flaps his arms against the floor and whines at him anyway.]
What are you, Manabe? Geez!
[But Tenma, ever a fountain of energy, does not need five minutes to recover. Wind-powered as he is, all he has to do is take a couple deep breaths before he pushes himself up, slate blue eyes sparkling as if he'd never been tired in the first place.]
[At that response, Tsurugi holds back a laugh, only to whisper 'Ichi...ni...san...' as a flailing Tenma whines at him. Not that it took him very long to sit back up again. As moving as the wind itself, he lifts himself from Tsurugi's torso, those blue eyes shining with mirth as he looks up into them.
A smile forms on his face, hoisting himself up into a sitting position as well.]
[With a hop, Tenma is back on his feet, and he holds out a hand to help his best friend up as well. At the same time, Tenma's loyal, but lazy, dog Sasuke comes lumbering up to the door from where he was lounging on the sidewalk to wait with a long howl of, "Are you ready yet?"]
And I guess Sasuke's getting impatient with me, too.
[That hand claps against Tenma's, his grip strong and firm as he uses his heels to gain some leverage to hoist himself up. He knew Tenma would be able to support him--their trust was unspoken but unbreakable--and it's not long before he's back on his feet and dusting off his cape that fell over his shoulders.]
Sasuke--
[The howl catches his attention, yellow eyes darting past Tenma to see the dog lounging on the sidewalk and catching rays while he waited for his owner to be finished 'greeting' his best friend.
A smile forms as the dog makes his way to the door, crouching down slightly to hold his hand out.]
[Arooooo. Sasuke may be lazy, but he's not one to be rude and not greet someone properly. He gets to his feet and shoves his muzzle into Tsurugi's hand, sniffing only briefly to make sure it's the scent he recognizes before he licks at Tsurugi's fingers, tail wagging slowly but happily. Despite the howling, there's not a drop of impatience there.
Tenma takes that moment to dust off his own clothes, too, patting down his pockets to make sure he still has his wallet and phone before joining Tsurugi at his side.]
[Once accepted, Tsurugi's hand trail along the curvature of Sasuke's jaw like, scritching right where at the start of the ear. It was funny, how laidback Sasuke was in comparison to his owner, although he assumes that's just because of his age. It warms his heart to see him accepted just as much as Tenma had accepted him, and those yellow eyes soften with warmth at the response.
He's quickly snapped back to attention at Tenma's question, though, looking over at him. Despite his demeanor, or how mature he seemed to be most of the time, there's no denying the childlike wonder on his face as he holds out his hand for the leash, pausing just for a moment.]
[Sasuke is no excitable pup who'll wag his tail into a blur and bark up a storm so quickly, but he shows enthusiasm and feels it. His lazy head rises up as he gets to his feet and walks right up to Tsurugi, sitting down by him in a clear sign of approval with his tail swishing leisurely. And Tenma, with a wide grin, places the leash firmly in Tsurugi's hand.]
[Tsurugi's fingers clasp around that leash the moment he can feel it in his palm, his lips slowly spreading into a smile the moment it seems to be solidified that Sasuke truly wanted him to carry that leash. He'd known the dog only a short while compared to his owner, but he could see just exactly why Tenma had a dog, and one as well trained and loving as Sasuke.
The same reason that Tenma was made captain, probably.]
Thank you, Sasuke.
[His one free hand reaches out to brush just underneath that floppy ear, using his knuckles to really scritch into the base where the cartilage met bone.]
[Sasuke accepts Tsurugi's affection with a tilt of his head and wag of his tail, but Tenma, feigning offense at Tsurugi's comment, protests with a nudge of his body against him, pressing playfully against his shoulder before laughing.]
I'll slow down this time. I wanna make sure you get to enjoy the walk!
[It's not often that Tsurugi teases. The boy always seemed to act too mature for his age, only saying what's necessary, or a soft commentary among his louder peers. Deep down, he truly wanted to be the calm, cool and collective type, and he was far too respectful of his upperclassmen to ever consider.
Tenma was different, though. Tenma had worked his way down into Tsurugi's heart, despite his best attempts to push him away. And now that he'd settled there, he became an irreplaceable part of him, and that put Tenma in a league all his own.
...And that meant he could poke fun at the boy just a little.]
You've got that right! Today's your lucky day -- Matsukaze Tenma going easy on you!
[Thanks to the influence of one Matatagi Hayato, Tenma has gotten, in Hamano and Kurama's words a couple months ago, 'more spunk' and 'sass.' Or maybe it's the stress from being captain to Inazuma Japan finally showing through, as the cheery and good-natured smile he kept plastered on his face while dealing with moody and uncooperative tweens just, on occasion, slips and a sarcastic comment or two slithers out.
The victim is usually Kariya, who's been lamenting to an unsympathetic Kirino that the pure and gullible Tenma-kun has been shooting back retorts to his comments with twice the amount of bite ever since he came back from space.
But that teasing is playful now, directed toward Tenma's best friend and greatest rival, the boy who'd supported him through all of that long and tiring adventure, and an arm is thrown around Tsurugi's back (because he can't reach his shoulders) as they keep walking.]
