[Kirino wasn't wrong. Pretty much the moment he found out about his vacation he'd packed and hopped on the train to Inazumacho. It was Ibuki's first time playing with Raimon outside of FFI V2, and he was excited to see his teammates again. Tenma's response to his text of him coming was nothing short of emoticons and stickers (one of himself, courtesy of Akane), and Tsurugi's was a short but sweet 'Looking forward to it.' Shinsuke threw a challenge at him, something along the line of 'I bet I can catch more shots than you'.
Shindou...well, he'd expressed his happiness, even if it came with a little tease of 'so soon?' But Ibuki wouldn't have had it any other way.
Practice went about as expected, people asking Ibuki all sorts of questions, Shinsuke practically bouncing around him before proceeding to do their stretches. Ibuki, who'd been just stretching his arms towards his toes, notices Kirino approaching. From what he'd found out, Kirino was a close friend of Shindou's, and had often texted alongside Shindou on the Inatter.
A pretty good guy, all things considered.]
Mmm. [A soft grunt, more just acknowledging Kirino's presence and an unspoken 'not much'.]
Can't wait to get back into that goalbox again.
[Sure, he'd been put there in practice matches, but...actual games? More often than not he was benched. A shocking blow to his pride, to say the least. But that's nothing he's going to voice out loud.]
I guess I can't wait to see you in that goalbox, then.
[An easy answer, casually but sincerely given, as Kirino bends his body forwards and stretches his arms toward his toes as well.]
Tenma and Shinsuke's told me plenty about you. You took multiple shots from Tsurugi and didn't let a point in? Color me impressed.
[Tsurugi was Raimon's prize player, after all. Every member was important valuable, true, but nobody could deny how decisive Tsurugi's speed and strength was, and a goalie who held his own against him was someone to take note of. Kirino flashes him a grin.]
If the ball gets past me and even gets to you, that is.
[Ibuki had no shortage of self-confidence, to say the least, but it's a whole other ordeal when someone else is complimenting him. More importantly, when a member of Raimon didn't get chosen to play in FFI v2 compliments him. Magenta eyes widen as he takes a minute to collect himself, smiling as his long arms reach and easily grip his toes.]
We practiced. Enough that he probably got tired of me after awhile.
[He smirks, knowing full well Tsurugi wanted them all to get better just as much as they did.]
...
Defender, huh.
[He can't help but feel a smile creep on his face. So Kirino was in his half of the field...]
[The same position as one of his favorite players in the pro leagues, although he wonders if Ibuki would recognize that name if he mentioned it. It's likely he would, as soccer advertisements were everywhere and that man was all over every piece of soccer-related media in the country, but he doesn't think it'll lead to any sort of conversation between them. Ibuki was invested in soccer now, but the same couldn't be said about all the fourteen years before this point. Maybe he'll save that for another opportunity. He continues in a teasing tone.]
You'll have me and Kariya on your team today. Don't hesitate to rely on us if you need it.
As for the points... well, you've got Shindou and Tsurugi up there.
[Once upon a time, he may have scoffed at the idea of needing the help of the defenders. He was what you'd call a 'lone wolf', only trusting himself on the field. It's why he took the position of goalkeeper to start--he didn't have to rely on anyone's ability (or lack-thereof in his mind at the time) to back him up.
How wrong he was.
Ibuki's eyes warm at the sentiment, thinking of Manabe and Minaho.]
You've got some shoes to fill. My last defenders were pretty damn good.
[He smiles, the look in his eyes a challenge.]
Think you can size up?
[Shindou would probably lecture him for acting this way towards people who've been playing soccer for longer than he has, but in his opinion, it all came down to chemistry on the field.]
Were your last defenders' shoes as big as your ego? I might have to think about it in that case.
[It's a teasing remark, friendly and easy. Sure, he did warn Ibuki a couple of times to be kinder to Shindou's stress levels (not that that ever needed any of Ibuki's help), but he thought the guy had potential. He wasn't surprised to hear later that the two of them got along after some mysterious adventure in space. He did think it'd be cool if he got to get along with him, too! But he wasn't about to be fooled. This guy had an ego that could take some prodding.]
Don't worry, though. We'll be making your jaw drop.
[He has to admit, this friend of Shindou's knows how to dish as much as he gets--it almost makes him wonder if Shindou had the same rough beginning with him as they had. It'd at least make it look a little less like Ibuki was a problem child, after all.
He's not about to recoil from a little jabbing to his sides, either.]
Alright. Time to impress me.
[And just in case--]
Because you can leave the goal to me. Nothing's getting past my reach.
[He smirks, already liking the cut of Kirino's jib. It doesn't take Ibuki long to get back to the goal, stretching his arms one last time before waiting for Kirino to take one of the usual defensive positions.
Kariya, the other one he'd been told about, was already there, sizing up Ibuki like he was some sort of mountain.]

[Shindou already talks about him like a problematic pet, anyway.]
Still, it's encouraging. Between you and us we'll have the perfect defense then.
